Privacy Policy

Diehard Deals is operated by Water Valley Golf Club in Water Valley, Alberta. When you sign up for our SMS deal alerts, we collect a small amount of information from you. This page explains exactly what, why, who sees it, and what your rights are. It's written to be readable. If something is unclear, just ask us — our contact details are at the bottom.

What we collect

When you sign up through this site, we ask for and store:

• Your name (first and last) — so we can address you properly and reconcile your record
• Your mobile phone number — so we can text you when there's a deal
• Your email address (optional) — only if you choose to provide it, as a backup contact channel
• Your preferred play time — to help us send relevant offers (weekday mornings, weekend afternoons, twilight, etc.)
• Your consent — recorded as a "yes" with a timestamp, which is what Canadian law requires us to keep on file
• Technical info — automatically: your browser type and the date/time you signed up. This helps us detect suspicious activity and is not used for advertising.

We do not collect: your location, your credit card or payment information, your golf handicap, your scores, photos of you, or anything else beyond what's listed above.

Why we collect it

We use the information you provide for exactly one purpose: to send you SMS alerts about last-minute tee time deals at Water Valley Golf Club.

That's it. We don't use it to sell you golf lessons, push memberships, hit you up at Christmas, or send you anything that isn't a Diehard Deal.

How we get your consent

Canada's anti-spam law (CASL) requires us to get your express consent before sending you any marketing texts. We do this in two steps:

• On this website, you check a box that says "Yes, text me" before submitting the form. We record that checkbox state along with your signup.
• On your phone, after you sign up, our SMS provider (Golf Genius) sends an automated confirmation message. You must reply START to confirm. Until you reply, you receive no further texts.

If you don't reply START within 24 hours, your subscription is automatically cancelled and you'll receive nothing from us.

How to opt out

Reply STOP to any text we send you, at any time. That immediately removes you from the list. No questions, no friction, no "are you sure?" follow-up.

You can also email us (see contact details below) and ask to be removed. We'll do it within a few business days at most.

Who has access to your information

Your data is stored in Google's Firebase platform (specifically, a Firestore database hosted in Toronto, Canada). The people and systems with access are:

• Water Valley Golf Club staff — specifically the pro shop manager and the person responsible for sending Diehard Deals alerts
• Our service providers — Google Firebase (data storage and website hosting) and Golf Genius (the SMS sending platform). Both have their own privacy practices and security measures.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone. Ever. This is a flat rule with no exceptions for "marketing partners" or "trusted third parties" or anything else.

The only situation where we would disclose your information to anyone else is if we were legally compelled to by a Canadian court order or law enforcement request. That has never happened and we don't expect it ever will.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as you remain subscribed to Diehard Deals. When you opt out (or your subscription is automatically cancelled because you didn't confirm), we keep your record for an additional three years in an inactive state.

The reason: Canadian law requires us to be able to prove that you consented to receive marketing texts at the time we sent them. Keeping the record (timestamp and consent flag) for three years protects both you and us if there's ever a question.

After three years, we delete the record permanently.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA federally, and PIPA in Alberta), you have the right to:

• Access the information we hold about you
• Correct any information that's inaccurate
• Withdraw your consent at any time (reply STOP, or contact us)
• Request deletion of your information
• Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta if you believe we've handled your data improperly

How we keep your data secure

We take reasonable measures to protect your information:

• All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections (TLS 1.3)
• The database is hosted by Google Firebase, which uses industry-standard encryption at rest
• Database access rules prevent any read access from the public website — only authorized administrators can view signups
• Our administrator accounts are protected with two-factor authentication

No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise. If there were ever a data breach affecting your information, we would notify you and the relevant privacy commissioners as required by Canadian law.

Cookies and tracking

This website does not use cookies, advertising trackers, or analytics that follow you around the internet. We don't show you ads. We don't sell your browsing behaviour. The site is intentionally simple in this regard.

Changes to this policy

If we ever update this policy materially, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top and — if the change affects how we handle your existing data — we'll notify you by SMS or email before it takes effect. Small wording fixes won't trigger a notification, but anything that changes what we do with your data will.
